Messier, Herschel and Caldwell in Com |

Still testing star maps, I decided to look for objects in the Coma Berenices constellation marked with M, C and H.
M53
It is not easy to sketch globular clusters, this is my second try on M53...
M64 - "The Black Eye Galaxy"
This time i DID saw the famous black spot after a few minutes of indirect seeing! The center is very bright and leaves a stellar impression.
NGC4494 / Herschel 251
Yet another bright galaxy leaving a stellar impression.
NGC4559 / Caldwell 36
Much fainter as the other galaxies tonight, it's also missing a bright center. Two stars shining in the object.
NGC4565 / Caldwell 38
Okay, I already sketched this one a few years ago, but it's a beauty - I just can't resist to observe it over and over again. Note the faint star (12m8) underneath the galaxy.
NGC4725 / Herschel 277
Bright, almost stellar center with fainter outer regions.

Finally the wetter and my work allowed me to sketch again. I took the opportunity to test some new star maps and to hunt galaxies in the Canes Venatici constellation.
M94
I started with M94, a pretty bright and easy to see galaxy. It appeared as a round and almost stellar object.
M106
Another bright galaxy with an almost stellar central region.
NGC4490 and NGC4485
A beautiful duo observed under good conditions...
NGC4631 and NGC4656: The Whale galaxy
NGC4631 is also known as the "Whale galaxy" or Caldwell 32. Bright and with a clear fish-shaped structure. NGC4656 is much fainter. A beautiful star chain can be observed between both objects.

Another galaxy jewel could be observed:

|
M51 + NGC5195 - Whirlpool Galaxy |
|
Friday, 13 April 2007 |
I sketched this beautiful duo under pretty good conditions. I could not really
see the energy flow between them but indirectly a diffuse cloud and a star
within M51 could be observed.

M65 + M66 + NGC3628 - Galaxy triplet |

Spring is galaxy time... This week the weather is unusually warm for the time of
the year but for galaxy hunting... just what we need ;-)
